Alice Vought Davis was born in 1893. She married George Goudy in 1926. Alice and George separated after the birth of a stillborn child.
Alice was the children's book buyer for a Los Angeles department store chain. She was also a painter and the author of the children's books Peter Penguin and Timothy Turtle. The latter was still in print many years later. Aunt Alice gave me my first watch, and always gave me good books at Christmas. She started me in stamp collecting, which awakened my interest in other countries and languages. I am forever in her debt. She died in 1963.
See her autograph from Jill Morgan's collection.
